Author: S.T. Lassal
S.T. Lassal is an artist and author specializing in sign language education materials. As the creator of Project FingerAlphabet — a pro bono publico project nominated for the German Award for Civic Engagement — Lassal developed custom professional sign language fonts and worked with acknowledged sign language experts across multiple countries, including Gallaudet University for the ASL alphabet, to ensure every illustration is accurate and shown from the viewer's perspective.
Developed for Project FingerAlphabet
Project FingerAlphabet is a pro bono publico project dedicated to making accurate sign language materials accessible. Founded in the pre-YouTube era to address the lack of reliable sign language reference resources, the project provides free downloadable alphabet charts for over 12 sign languages at fingeralphabet.org. All hand shape illustrations are purpose-built using custom professional sign language fonts and validated by at least two independent, acknowledged experts per alphabet. Project FingerAlphabet was nominated for the German Award for Civic Engagement. Its materials are used by educational institutions, government agencies, and international organizations across multiple countries.
